Positive Action

It’s interesting how, despite our conscious desire for joy that comes from skill building, our subconscious minds often gravitate towards certainty. This tendency is not limited to individuals who actively seek familiarity. It equally applies to those who actively pursue novelty.

For example, consider someone who has followed a strict daily routine for years. On the other hand, another person has the same routine with novelty and constantly seeks a fresh canvas. One is not better than the other. It’s possible these two individuals are equally happy, but there’s something that they both feel is off.

Whether someone is fixed to routine or clings to novelty, both approaches may miss what’s underlying or hinder significant personal progression. Both may be avoiding introspection to confront their own desires, fears, or insecurities.

You can be passionate about growth and new experiences yet still fear uncertainty because that’s part of human nature. Positive action can feel unsettling because it’s not always immediately rewarding and, at the very least, requires integrating new actions and embracing uncertainty. An example could be physical exercise.

So we understand the human body prioritizes survival through a focus on predictable behavior. However, as humans, we can pursue a life beyond meeting basic needs and thrive. By loosening our grip on what we perceive as control, we gain more.

People who invest in themselves and embrace positive action may not know the exact results they will get, but they are happier, exude greater confidence, and experience true freedom. So, some certainty is possible. When we commit, put in the effort, and embrace growth, we invite ourselves to a world of opened doors and more joy.

Every year I make a list of a few experiences I really want to have. A little taste of what’s to come! I realized that life has a way of tugging me in different directions and unless I set a firm intention to see or do a certain thing seasons have a way of slipping by. Is there anything you’ve been putting off or delaying that you really want to happen this year?
